Seeing Double?

Since I got Jack's haircut, everyone keeps commenting on how much Jack really looks like Bronson now! Bhrett (Brons' sister) even asked if I took a pic of Bronson with me to the hairstylist for inspiration! Well, I think it's safe to say the answer is no, but now I can see why someone might wonder. I was going to include a pic of me at 3 years old as well, but after seeing these two pics side by side, I thought....what's the point!

As a history teacher, who no longer has a class to torment, I know I often times turn to you all. So just bear with me. I promise I’ll try to make this mini-lesson worth your while!!

As a student of history, I naturally have several topics/time periods I’m more passionate about. The first being Revolutionary American, the second being World War II, and finally the Civil Rights Movement and the stories and lessons that can be extracted from that period. And I’m pretty sure it would be impossible to discuss the Civil Rights Movement and not discuss Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

I know we are all very busy and we don’t always make time to reflect on our past, however, it was my job for three wonderful years, so I still feel a little responsible to urge people to give pause on this day. To not only reflect on the life of Dr. King, but all those who came before and those who came after. The movement didn't just start with Dr. King, nor did it end with him, however his personal sacrifice is not something that should just be thought of as another day off from work and school.

But just remember this as you go about your day: For the majority of American history, black Americans have been treated as 2nd class citizens. I know that has become somewhat of a buzz word, but reminding all those that have been fortunate enough to not live during that time, I’m talking about separation of bathrooms, drinking fountains, restaurants, and schools. Beatings were common place, murders were just another story tucked away in the back pages of the newspaper and the rights afforded to us by our constitution only applied to those with white skin. This is not to mention the institution of slavery. This is not some faraway country or dictatorship I’m referring to, but rather The United States of America: the land of the free, democratic-state, where “all men are created equal”, and a majority of people consider themselves Christians!! This is our history, whether we like it or not. But the lives destroyed and lost along the way would all be in vain if we stopped teaching it and didn’t learn the lessons in which we as a nation have truly “learned the hard way”.

How would you respond to such treatment? How would you react to such violence? How would you explain to your child why he or she isn’t allowed to go to school with the other children? And the unspeakable….what would you do if your child was ever taken from you in the name of segregation or racism? For many people these weren’t just mere questions typed on a piece of paper to prove a point….it was their reality. For most of you, the answer may seem obvious, but Dr. Martin Luther King preached a different approach than most would assume. He thought to answer such injustices with violence was the easy answer. It was an easy, natural instinct for most, but also, one that would accomplish nothing but more heartache and resistance. Meeting violence with peace was indeed much harder and Dr. King understood that, although he also understood the approach was necessary in order to bring racial injustices to an end. Dr. King preached peace and persistence and took many of his lessons from Ghandi (the leader of India's independence movement). Through Dr. King, the movement gained momentum and worldwide attention. Peaceful gatherings at lunch counters were met with beatings and unified street marches were met with high powered water hoses and dogs. But still, Dr. King preached peace and remained the glue that held the non-violent movement together. Dr. King didn’t yell, he didn’t curse, point fingers, or even hold grudges. He spoke on what he believed was right in a time when speaking out meant not only putting your life on the line, but those of your family and friends. And on April 4, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King gave the ultimate sacrifice. He was shot while standing on a hotel balcony in Memphis, Tennessee.

My hope is that the life of Dr. King continues to be taught and we continue to learn from his message. I want to leave you with a Ghandi quote, but very relevant to the day and the times in which we live. I have a necklace with this quote and I wear it often. I believe if we could all do our little part, the effect would be enormous:

Jack's New Do

Several weeks ago Bronson finally said to me (I knew the time was coming) you either take him to get his hair cut or I will. I didn't wait around to find out exactly what that meant. I immediately made Jack a hair cut appointment so "the cut" would be on my terms!

I will say that he was being called a girl on a daily basis and it was so bad Jack even started correcting people! Kind of embarrassing, but he just looked so cute, I put up with it. I took a few pictures today so you could see the finished product. It's not too long and it's not too short, but it has taken a little while to grow on me. I do really like it now and I think he's handsome as ever! But regardless of the "do"......how could you not LOVE this face??

The Dog Days of Winter

Things have been pretty slow around here for us, and that's the way I like it for now! I have completely taken a break from photography, which also means no recent pictures of my little Jack. The last part of last year was just so crazy for me, I'm really enjoying my time off (and by that I mean concentrating on my other full-time job, keeping my house, actually using my kitchen for other things than eating take-out, and most of all, spending time with Jack and Bronson).

So until I get motivated to pick up the camera again, here are just a few more from our December photo shoot!

The Project

As I stated in an earlier post, I needed just a few pictures of Jack for a project. I didn't want to reveal these until after Christmas because I was putting together a "Thank You" card for our friends and family for helping to make our Christmas so wonderful! They have officially been mailed, so here's the card! In print the card also has scalloped edges, but you get the idea.....

Help Portrait 2011

Several months ago, I was contacted by the enormously talented Sheri Grippo of Bella Bambino Photography in Cape Girardeau to assist with the local Help-Portrait project. In a nutshell, Help-Portrait is a worldwide movement started by photographers to give back to their local communities. In the words of Help-Portrait "We don't want to take your picture. We want to give it to you. Free." Most people or families that are served are those that normally wouldn't have the means to have pictures professionally taken and NO ONE is turned away! What a great idea, right!?

It is difficult to accurately put into words the emotions and "moments" that were shared on that Saturday. It was truly a heart-warming experience and I was SO grateful to be apart of the project and lend my talents to those in need! Snapping a few pictures, in the whole scheme of things, seems very minuscule or insignificant, but I can assure you, MUCH greater things happened that day!

From the moment families arrived, they were welcomed by our many volunteers and given the opportunity to have their hair and make-up done by a local salon and beauty school who were kind enough to donate not only their time, but products and equipment as well.

They were then taken to a room where 1 of 8 photographers was waiting to take their picture and most of all, make them feel comfortable and special! That was my favorite part! I personally shot between 30-40 families that day. When time permitted (because I was pretty busy for most of the day) I asked a little bit about the individual's life and situation. One woman in particular, who was about 60ish years old, told me that she and her husband always wanted to have their portraits professionally taken and they never got the chance before he passed away. She came, in part, because of that memory and taking an opportunity that she never had when her husband was alive. If stories like that don't humble you and remind you what we should be doing more of, then I'm not sure what will!

After families left the photographers, they were then invited into a room where snacks and games/crafts were provided while they waited for their pictures to be edited and printed (by a whole other room staffed with photographers who edited and put the finishing touches on the images).

I was so positively effected by the events in Cape Girardeau, I want so badly to bring this movement to Southern Illinois next year! I know the undertaking this would be, but I know in my heart that anyone involved in this project (whether on the giving or receiving end) would be forever grateful for the experience!

Here is just a peek into the beautiful souls that were caputued. We invited those interested to share some words with us by writing on their portraits!

Happy Christmas Eve (2008 Style)

Christmastime is my most favorite part of the year! Thanks to my parents and grandparents, I have THE BEST memories! I love sharing that excitement with my friends and family and I will be spending the day baking, listening to a little Bing on the stereo, maybe indulging in a Godiva martini, and of course snuggling with Jack!

I woke up this morning with the urge to look at pictures from Jack's first Christmas and I, of course, wanted to share them with all of you. Jack's features are still the same, but my, he's changed so much in 3 years. You certainly see why I call him "biggie", although the name is a little ironic these days. He couldn't be further from that!

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with your families as well!

J. Crew Style Shoot : Sneak Peek

Last week I needed to take a few pictures of Jack for a little project, so we headed out to my current fave location just down the street. I have been itching to do a J. Crew style shoot with him, especially after I picked up a few items at Crewcuts this week in St. Louis.

But if you haven't noticed (although I'm sure you have), there has been a lack of "Jack" pictures lately, and for good reason. The first being, I've just been so busy with other peoples kids and secondly (as I was quickly reminded last week), my nerves just can't handle it! I will save that explanation (and proof) for a future post. But I thought I would post just a couple of the good pictures I managed to get.

Client Christmas Cards

I am so pleased that I decided to offer Christmas cards this year to my clients! I soooo much enjoy doing our family Christmas cards and I now get to share that joy with others. I have done a lot this year, but here is just a sampling from some of the most recent (these are all 5x7 flat front/back cards). Seeing them online NEVER do the cards justice. Some have scalloped and scrolling edges and of course the texture or pearl stock can't be properly conveyed either. But maybe you were lucky enough to receive a KPP card in the mail this year, and if so, you know what I mean.....

Christmas Packages

I always take great pride when sending correspondence to others which includes cards, letters, and packages. In my opinion, it's all in the presentation!

That includes our family Christmas cards, which you saw and read about in a previous post. I also LOVE my photography packaging. I love to not only WOW my customers with amazing images but leave them with a lasting impression with my beautiful packaging.

So you can imagine, my Christmas packaging is no different! I will say, I don't buy new wrapping paper every year, but rather work around what I got the day after Christmas the year before or have left over from previous Christmases. No lie, I'm actually still using some paper I bought 5 years ago....I'm pretty sure the family is tired of seeing that paper!

But I always look for creative ways to add to my packaging. Last year I added monogrammed ornaments, which was pretty neat. But this year I came across an Etsy seller that intrigued me. Jennifer Biagi of PaperJacks. I'm absolutely ~~obsessed~~ in love with Etsy. If you're not familiar, click on the link and prepare yourself to handover the weekly paycheck. Well it's not that bad, but I do use Etsy a lot for decorating, birthday party planning, and even some of my most favorite card designers I have found through Etsy! I much rather buy from small time businesses or individuals than hand my money over to large corporations like Hobby Lobby (although sometimes that can't be avoided). But I guess being the small business owner myself now, I certainly see the importance!

So this year it's red and white paper with paper ribbons and labels, thanks to PaperJacks of Louisville, KY! I'm just loving the simplicity!

Christmas cards are finally sent and I have enjoyed all the sweet messages I have received from our friends and family upon their arrival. I always put a lot of time and resources into our cards every year and I'm so happy to know people are enjoying them!

Below is the image of our cards. I realize it does take a little bit of an imagination seeing them flat but it has 2 folds. The very last picture might help. One at the top (and when printed the top actually is scrolling) and between the text and pics at bottom. The second picture is just the outside of the card....so just imagine it folded too!

The Outtakes

Jessica also included some funny pictures in which, especially the first one, pretty much sums up how Brons and I felt about the entire picture taking process. Jack was a complete hooligan and we both needed a drink by the time the shoot was over.

I believe that every photographer should have their own family pictures done at least once a year just to keep things in perspective. I mean if I had a dollar for every parent who profusely apologized to me for their child's behavior, let's just say, I'd be a very rich woman. Of course I always say, "They're kids, no problem! That's what they do!". And I mean it! Kids are never as bad during shoots as parents often think! But this time I was that parent apologizing for my wild little indian. But Jessica could not have been more patient and from the first set of AMAZING pictures, you never would have guessed Jack's life was threaten at least 10 times during that shoot!

We had our yearly family pictures done by the FABULOUS Jessica Hollis of Jessica Hollis Photography this year! I could go on...and on about how much I love and admire this girl, but I'll let the pictures do the talking.

They were taken back in September, but I've been waiting to post them until after our Christmas cards were sent. Let's just say I purchased quite a few canvases and have my walls plastered with the prints! It was soooooo nice to be on the other side of the lens this time. After viewing all the pictures, I just sat and cried I loved them so much! Another HUGE thank you to Jessica for giving me such beautiful pictures that I will cherish forever and for the fabulous art that now hangs on our walls!

Turkey & Guns

I am thankful for so much this holiday season! And I think it goes without saying at the top of list is my family and friends! So this Thanksgiving, we made several stops to see the entire family, but for lunch we went out to Bronson's dad's and Suzanne's house. After lunch we headed outside to shoot a little trap. It might have been a first for me, but just let me say, I held my own with the boys! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday as well! I resolve to post more now that my photography busy season is drawing to a close.....soon!

I have been a SERIOUSLY busy girl lately! My September was busy, but my October is officially CRAZY! But that's a good thing....no complaints here. But I know if I can just get through the next month or so, winter will be smooth sailing. I mean quite literally....we're already planning our cold weather get away. Saying Goodbye

Sunday night my Ganu passed away. For all that are not familiar, my Ganu (and Paw-Paw) practically raised me. I think I spent as much time with them as I did my own parents. They were not actually my grandparents, but I certainly didn't know any better, since they were literally in my life since birth. And to be honest, I don't think they knew any better either. As I think I've stated quite often in the past, I had THE BEST childhood any kid could ask for and they, of course, had every bit to do with that! My Paw-Paw actually passed away when I was a freshman in high school and I think it's harder for me now than it was 15 years ago. They say it's suppose to get easier, but for me, not the case. I still, to this day, cannot talk about him without crying. I think I've realized it's something I'll never get over. Now with my Ganu gone, I know they are finally together again, which is comforting, but still so sad for those of us left behind with nothing but pictures and memories. I, without a doubt, believe they were in my life (and I in theirs) for a reason. They helped teach me the true meaning of unconditional love and whether in body, or soul, they will always be with me.

Downtown Chincoteague, The Pony Swim, and The Saltwater Cowboys

Here are a few more pics from our vacation. The first are a few I took of Jack downtown while we did a little shopping and the last ones are from Pony Swim Day. To make a long story short, the saltwater cowboys (aka Chicoteague Firefighters) round-up some of the wild horses on the adjacent island, Assateague, swim them across the channel at low tide, march them down the main street and action them off. I guess it's population control, but also the firefighters only yearly fundraiser. It's kind of a big deal. There were people EVERYWHERE, helicopters overhead, and souvenir vendors in full force!

Island Time

A funny thing happens when you leave the mainland and step foot on an island....and I do mean any island. Life slows down and people just seem to relax. After being on island time for almost a week now, it was really hard to snap back in to reality.

I realized I didn't have a headache in over a week and enjoyed kicking off my shoes and literally feeling the sand between my toes. As I stated in my previous post, we did spend some time in the D.C. area and then Jack and I traveled with my family to their beach house on Chincoteague Island. It's truly a quaint, enchanting little island on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. You can then take a tiny bridge over to Assateague Island where the beach is along with hundreds of wild ponies.

I think Jack and I had more fun in the last week than we've had in a REALLY long time. Playing, reading, napping, beach-going by day and fresh seafood eating and The Island Creamery by night. We are so spoiled! I have more pics from the island, but these are from our trek to the uninhabited part of the beach.

But I think these pictures speak volumes. The smile on my little boy's face says it all.....

And this last picture is just hilarious to me because he was dancing like Michael Jackson. Can you picture it?

A Brief Hiatus

Later today we are leaving to spend a few days in Washington D.C. with my family. My mom is from the area and my aunt and uncle still live right out of the city. When I was younger my mom and I traveled to D.C.....a lot, and I always feel at home when I go back, although it's been awhile. It's literally 100 degrees there now so I don't know how much walking and outside site seeing we'll do, but I hope Jack gets to see some of the city.

We'll spread our time between Georgetown and Alexandria, VA before Jack and I head to their beach house on Chincoteague Island. Below is a little excerpt taken from Country Living magazine. And I don't think I have to tell you that I've got BIG plans for picture taking on the island. We'll be gone for several weeks, but you can expect some great pics when we return!!

Assateague and Chincoteague islands.....besides unspoiled beaches, these barrier isles..on the border of Virginia and Maryland..are renowned for there wild horses. The biggest day of the year is July 27th, the annual pony roundup and swim, when "saltwater cowboys" herd 150 horses from Assateague to Chincoteague for a foal auction and carnival. Where to stay...the cozy refuge inn sits minutes from the beach. You can venture over to Assateague via a walkable quarter mile causeway. It is about 110 miles north of Virginia beach, a bridge connects the mainland to the island.

U2: Hearts + Minds

As many of you probably know, my mom and I attended the U2 concert at Soldier Field last week. U2 is near to my heart for several reasons: they have ROCKIN' music and on his off time, Bono is trying to save the world. Ok that sounds a little dramatic and a bit sarcastic, but I truly love how the band has chosen to use their fame to bring attention to injustices around the world. I left the concert feeling like a better person and thought I would be remiss if I didn't at least mention a few of the causes.

But what probably brought tears to my eyes the most was his dedication of "Beautiful Day" to Sen. Gabby Giffords. Her husband (Astronaut Mark Kelly) was even in attendance via satellite. It was, for lack of a better word, beautiful!!

But also touching was his tribute to Burmese leader Aung San Suu Kyi and her also speaking directly to U2 fans at the concert. Please read the following directly taken from www.U2.com

Burma, a country of 47 million people is ruled by fear. A military machine of 400,000 soldiers denies a whole nation its most basic rights. Aung San Suu Kyi, pro-democracy leader and Nobel Peace laureate, symbolises the struggle of Burma's people to be free. Her Party, the National League for Democracy (NLD) won 82% of the seats in the 1990 election. The people of Burma overwhelmingly rejected military rule yet the military continues to refuse to transfer power to Burma's democratically elected leaders. Aung San Suu Kyi has spent many years under house arrest and prevented from seeing her family. She was released from house arrest in May 2002. Hundreds of her supporters are still detained, many suffering torture and in some cases death. Her message is a simple one - that only by fighting fear can you truly be free - a message Burma's military aims to silence. U2's Grammy winning song Walk On is dedicated to Aung San Suu Kyi.

I suppose I can call myself a professional photographer (wow that sounds weird to me) since I've been doing paid jobs for almost a year now. And something I talk about from time to time is professional glass. It's much coveted in the photography world mainly because the lenses are amazing, but over-the-top pricey. It's definitely not something I needed, but rather wanted. I think anyone with a hobby or true love for something wants the very best gear that's offered. So I've been liquidating, saving, and scrimping and I finally got the courage to click that little "buy it now" button next to this.....

This lens is something photographers dream about at night. That beautiful, soft bokeh (background blur) and that gorgeous red ring. The sweet sound (or really lack there of) the shutter makes when snapping away. The huge, sturdy glass with it's razor thin depth of field. Truly.....exciting beyond words!!!!! And I suppose this post's purpose is two fold: to share my excitement with all of you and give myself reassurance whenever I see my bank statement. Although I know all I need to do is pick up my camera, snap a few pictures and that will be reminder enough! Here's to many more great images to come.......

This one is for all of you out there that think I get great pictures because I have a cooperative family. I spend all the time posting the good ones...but what about the bad ones? I mean I'm working with a 3 year old and a husband who's even worse when it comes to picture taking. Was it too much to ask for my boys to cooperate for the 10 seconds it would have taken to snap a good family picture? I mean, I went to all the trouble to throw my son the best Cat in the Hat party ever, I FINALLY convinced my husband to wear his "Thing 1" shirt and this is what I get!!! And to add a little narrative to the picture, Bronson was saying "This is so stupid"...yes he's 31, and my son was crying because he wanted to go in the bounce house. But I've learned to cherish any family picture I can get and this one just might make it in The Hall of Fame of best family pictures. Ever.

This will be the first in a series of posts of Jack's party. But I must preface these posts by saying, I was VERY stressed about playing the many roles a mother does at these parties. I tried very hard to be a good mommy to the birthday boy, a gracious and attentive hostess and the official party photographer. And of those three, I feel the photography suffered the most! I only had a short while to snap a few pics of the food and decorations before guests started arriving and later noticed that in most pics the cookies still had wrappers and my Thing 1 & 2 cups were sans their hair (aka blue cotton candy).

But I will say I think the party went off without a hitch. Our guests enjoyed themselves and Jack had a blast on his special day = mission accomplished! The majority of the time was spent outside since I rented a bounce house, a party canopy to cover the tables and chairs, and an area for washers and adult beverages for our older guests.

Inside I had the majority of food and decorations (for the purposes of heat and bugs) and I served the traditional summertime fare to include burgers and hot dogs on the grill, homemade salsa, spaghetti slaw, chips and dip. For the main table I had LOTS of desserts to include the beautiful Hat cake and cupcakes made by Larry's in Carbondale, the cake pops made by Lori Pinion of Herrin, and the fabulous, almost too perfect to eat cookies made by Jen in Utah (yes...I had cookies shipped from Utah!). I also had fish (aka goldfish) in a fish bowl and various red, white and turquoise candies.

The decorations consisted of mainly red and white with some turquoise and a touch of yellow. Also notice the bunting over the doorway, across the table and I also hung it over the windows. I made it from The Cat in the Hat books I purchased online. It was really hard at first to deface a book, but I have to say, the bunting did turn out pretty cute! I also had several signs with Cat in the Hat quotes, balloons and tissue balls.

My dear friend Leslie convinced me to read this book as she knows how much I LOVE dogs. Actually we made a deal....I read this book and she reads Twilight. And I'm still waiting on her.....

But all kidding aside, this was a FANTASTIC book! It's written from the perspective of a philosopher dog, "Enzo" (like a Ferrari Enzo...I thought that was super cute) whose owner is a Formula One race car driver. Without giving too much away, because I highly recommend you read this book, it is sad and will undoubtedly bring on the tears, whether you're an emotional person or not. But just let me say, it's one of those books that just makes you feel like a better person for having read it.

Jack's 1st Swimming Lessons

This week I signed Jack up for swimming lessons at the Herrin Pool. Nanny was nice enough to take him for his 10:30 lesson Monday through Friday with "Be-lisha". Her name is Alisha, but Jack calls her "Be-lisha". He has grown quite attached to "Be-lisha" and even told me the other day that he loved her...whatever that means to a 2 year old!? But I thought it was so cute I told him to tell her. I'm not sure if he did or not but I think she was just as smitten with him!

So Friday for his last lesson, I met Nanny and Jack at the pool and snapped a couple pictures. He's come a long way in a week!!

This weekend we headed down to Kentucky Lake to board the "Aquaholic" (Bronson's grandpa's boat) for a little fun in the sun! I can only go so long without taking pictures before I start to get antsy. It has actually been over a week so you can guess Jack and I headed outside for a little fun in the sun. I find that lately I have the most success when I just let Jack "do his thing" and I just snap away while he's in carefree, 2 year old mode....which also brings me to another point.

For the first time, while editing these pictures I thought "Wow, Jack looks so old! He looks like a little boy!". I know this probably seems so obvious to most of you, but I still think of him as my baby. Gosh he's growing up too quickly for me!

1. Hello, my name is Katie Parrish and I'm addicted to Etsy! I LOVE the website and I think I could honesty find a way to spend every paycheck on random things I don't even need...but LOVE! :) I have bought most of the things for Jack's party from Etsy vendors, not to mention it's also my creative inspiration. I really love these totes from JennyLyons81.

2. I'm super excited to announced Katie Parrish Photography has booked 2 weddings this Fall. To this point I've actually turned down weddings, but I think I'm ready to branch out. Even though I still consider my specialty to be children, I would love to get some great shots like this one taken by Mandy Lynne. This was actually taken at the same winery just outside of STL that one of my weddings will be!

3. Several years ago when we bought some ceiling fans for our home, Bronson and I found and LOVED the Ernest Hemingway floor fan collection. Out of the blue the other day, he brought up the fan again and I thought about getting it for Father's Day. I'm just afraid that it will be one of those gifts that he thinks is bogus because it's just as much for him as it is for me....so I'm undecided. Although it is pretty sweet! (And don't worry, he doesn't read this blog, so I haven't given anything away!)

4. I just got Jack's invites in the mail and they exceeded my expectations! (Another Etsy seller Paper Cut Couture) I'm going to save the back for a future post after I mail them out. I have to save some surprises, but here's the front to get an idea....

5. The next lens on my "to try" list is the Canon 70-200mm/2.8 IS. This lens is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive but most so called "real" professionals have it in their bag. I'll get around to trying it soon, I'm just afraid I might like it...too much!

6. In July my mom and I are traveling to Chicago for a little getaway and to FINALLY see U2 in concert. If you remember I bought these tickets for my mom 2 Christmases ago, but due to Bono's back surgery the concert was rescheduled for this July and it better be worth the wait.....although I know it will be! :)

7. I love to travel! Well I should probably say I love it when I get there, but the actual traveling part is always quite stressful for me. I HATE to fly and unfortunately most of the places I want to see that I haven't already, require air travel. But at the very top of my list of places I want to see is New Zealand! One day I will bite the bullet and make the flight half way around the world. But I'll need A LOT of Xanax first!

8. I really want a backyard Oasis! We have a very blah backyard right now because to be quite honest the creative juices have come to a screeching halt. In other words, we just don't know what to do with our backyard area. But until we come up with something I'll keep dreaming about a place like this....

9. I have driven a company car for 4 years now and in 4 years I haven't gotten to choose my own car...not that I'm complaining. I love my car! But it doesn't keep me from looking and thinking about what I'd love to have someday if I ever got to choose my own. Right now I'm loving the new Jaguar XJ. This car is GORGEOUS!!! But the catch-22 here is that when the day comes that I no long drive a company car that means I'll probably be out of a job which also means I won't be able to afford this car! Not that I can now either. It stickers for over $72K...YIKES! Can't a girl dream though.....

10. Last week my dear friend, Leslie turned the big 3-0! Because she lives in Louisville, KY we had to postpone her celebration. But let's just say.....it's on this weekend! :)

Spring Cleaning

Bronson and I used this beautiful weekend to clean (inside & out) and make a few improvements here and there! I LOVE this time of year and with warmer weather comes the need to clean...I mean CLEAN everything. Yesterday, I literally Pledged my wood floors on my hands and knees if that gives you any indication of how clean my house is right now. We also had a tree guy stop by yesterday and we got rid of some of our pitiful, dead ones and got some beautiful Blaze Maples in their place. I also made a trip to Lightfoot Farms in Murphysboro today and picked up the gorgeous hanging baskets you see.

Bronson pressure washed the driveway, siding, scrubbed the gutters, and cleaned and hosed out the garage. It's like having a new house again!

You might have figured from the above picture or facebook comment earlier this week, that I was able to persuade Jack! Thomas the Train is out and The Cat in the Hat is in!!!

I sat down Monday to begrudgingly order the Thomas stuff. I went to BirthdayExpress.com, loaded my cart and was about to click the purchase button, but I just couldn't do it. I thought I'd give The Cat party one more chance. So I went and rented the new "Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That" video, picked up Jack from the sitter's, and started my elaborate party talk. He was sold...and it's been The Cat ever since. Not to mention his love of Thomas has started to wane over the last several months, so I of course, seized the opportunity!

I began the party planning as soon as the words left his mouth. I will just say....It will be his best party yet!

Letters

Jack has known most of his letters for quite some time now and I've been meaning to post video, but I've been a little behind. But, thanks to shows like "Super Why" on PBS and Leap Frog's "Letter Factory", he pretty much has it down, including the sound each letter makes and spelling simple words too. Mother's Day

Well, the first half of the day was business as usual. I told myself I WAS NOT going to work.....but I failed, miserably. Then this afternoon, Jack and I visited my aunt Susan and Grandma and then came back to the house for a nice dinner, cooked by Bhrett, Josh and Bronson! (My mom is in SC, so our celebration is postponed for several weeks.)

So I tried to stay on the front porch while they were cooking and FINALLY start The Help. It's great so far, although I was a little distracted by the fact my new drink dispenser was being jerked around by Bronson and Josh. Again, another item I've been coveting and I finally pulled the trigger on this sweet Mason Jar drink dispenser from PB...

...and what happens during it's inaugeral use??? The lid gets stuck!! Ughhhhhh! So the guys spent a good 45 minutes twisting, turning, hammering (EEEEK!), and finally trying boiling hot water in an effort to shrink the metal lid. No dice. I'm pretty upset.

But after the delicious dinner we headed outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. All my frustrations went away and I remembered why I'm celebrating this day....

And I just LOVE this one of Nanny, Poppy, and Jack. What a precious moment!!

Easter AND New York

We had a wonderful Easter weekend which I kicked off Thursday afternoon when I took Jack to see Hop. It was an adorable movie and he is always so good at the show. He just sat and ate his popcorn and drank his Coke...too cute!

Then Friday evening was dinner and a movie with the girls. We ate at Global Gourmet in Carbondale (which was amazing) and saw Water for Elephants on opening night! We had a blast and have decided to turn it into a monthly tradition!

Also, if you live in or around Southern Illinois you know it was a crappy weather weekend. So no outside Easter egg hunts and no picture taking. VERY disappointing! Yesterday was lunch with Bronson's dad and Suzanne and family and this morning was breakfast at our house. But I did snap a few pics at the farm several weeks ago. Taking pictures of my son is getting increasingly more like herding cats, but I got a few that were worth sharing...

And finally all the MAJOR work stress I've been dealing with over the last month or so is coming to a close...but not before I have to spend a week in Rye Brook, NY (which is quite literally a stone's throw from Connecticut) for live training. I'm excited to finally have the "King Integration Training" behind me and also kind of excited to check out Pfizer's compound. I hear The Learning Center is state of the art and the hotel looks pretty sweet too.....

Some MUCH Needed Rest & Relaxation

This weekend my mom, Jack and myself travel to St. Louis for a little get away. It was a trip with many purposes...I got some late birthday shopping in from my mom and dad, we both had a list of several must get items to fulfill, and most of all, we just needed some time away.

We visited all our favorite places. We ate at The Cheesecake Factory and The Macaroni Grill and I got some AMAZING deals at my favorite retailers (The Loft, Ann Taylor and The Limited)...and by the way, all three stores had 40% off everything! We picked a great weekend to "get away"! :) Plus I had coupons on top of all that great savings. I even crossed over to my mom's store, Coldwater Creek, for a couple purchases....and trust me, I really didn't want to love anything in that store, but these two things might have found their way home with me...

...and as far as the white jeans go, hand's down the most comfortable I've ever put on....I'm really not kidding, although I wish I was. But really the fit was pretty fantastic too! Don't worry, I'm not sporting the "mom jeans" just yet!

I've also been coveting some great flats lately. I was going for subtle and classy, yet comfy and I finally made my decision and went with these from Cole Haan. And you know me, I never buy without a sale or coupon. So I took advantage of their "Soles4Souls" program and donated a pair of shoes and received an extra 20% off my purchases! It was a win win!!

I plan one big party every year and that is for my son's birthday. I usually spend a lot of time, and more money than I'd like to mention, even though a lot of my decorations and details are DIY. And needless to say, Bronson cringes every year as well. I always gear up around spring time and I'm ready to start planning. Now keep in mind Jack's birthday is June 24th and it's now April 10th. What can I say...I'm a planner!

But I have tried to convince Jack that we need a Cat in the Hat party....believe me, I'VE TRIED, to no avail! How cute would it be to have all red and white decorations with everything in rhyme? I know...I'm disappointed too! So, Thomas the Train it is! I've been thinking and planning and I'm so excited this year he will actually be old enough to have friends over and they can play and have fun! So here are just a few pics to give you an idea of what I'm planning...

A great party always includes great desserts! I've employed the help of Jen at All Things Exquisite (who is an Etsy seller that lives in Utah) to make some adorable cookies for the party. If you check out her site to will see she's SUPER talented and pretty reasonably priced.

I've also put a deposit down on this bounce house so Jack and all his friends can jump around (in the comfort of our backyard) like little crazies!! But I'm not telling Jack. It will be one of his birthday surprises. It's kind of nice being able to celebrate with his party on his actual birthday this year!

I have a few more goodies up my sleeve but you'll just have to stay tuned for those! I just hope I can pull together a successful Thomas party for my little boy and one the adults can enjoy as well!

A Vintage-Style Shoot

I have recently gotten my chair back after sending it to get recovered. To jog your memory, I purchased a 1950s era wing-back chair to use as a photo prop. Can I say one more time how much I love this chair?

I have had a very specific look in mind I wanted to capture with this chair. So Suzanne and I headed out to a field behind their house to fulfill my vision, although I was the subject this time! It was definitely a learning experience for both of us....I'm not use to being in front of the camera! Yikes....that's hard work! :)

And when I saw this dress at The Loft, I knew I had not only found my Easter attire and adorable dress really for everyday, but the PERFECT dress for the vintage shoot!! And the "Jackie" pearls were the perfect accessory!

Wedding Reception Recap

I promise this will be the last Bhrett & Josh wedding post! But I did want to share the reception pictures I took several weeks ago. Almost two weeks after we celebrated the nuptials in Colorado, Bhrett & Josh held a reception here at home for all those who couldn't make it to the actual ceremony. It was definitely a family affair with Bronson on guitar and vocals (again) and me behind the camera. Bhrett has so fondly nicknamed me the "mamarazzi"....pretty cute huh?

To Upgrade or Not....That is the Question!

Without getting too much into camera jargon, I LOVE my 50mm lens. For what I do, in my opinion, it is the perfect focal length. I started with the Canon 50mm/ 1.8 and for Christmas was lucky enough to upgrade my favorite lens to the 50mm/1.4. Now to most of you that means nothing, but money is a language we all speak....so here's the break down. The 1.8 was $100, the best bang for your buck and the 1.4 runs $450. To me, it was totally worth it (or should I say my mom and dad since they are the ones that bought if for me?).

Now for the shocker! The 50mm/1.2 is $1500! That's right, fifteen-hundred. There is no decimal between the 15 and those zeros. Not only do you get the extra stop (which I don't care too much about) but it's made with a special glass that is called "L-glass" by Canon or often referred to as "pro-glass". It apparently costs a lot of money to manufacture!? I've rented pro-glass before but it's been awhile. So I again rented another lens but this time it was the 50mm/1.2. My goal was to see, is it worth it!

Well, here are the few pics I've taken since I've had it. I shot these in the back yard the other night while Jack was running around totally uncooperative like a little hooligan (what else is new?). You can be your own judge, but so far, this girl says....NO WAY. They are good, but not $1000 more good!! Maybe someday if I'm ever a full time professional I will justify such an expense, but for now, I love my 50mm/1.4!

Caroline's Alice in Wonderland 4th Birthday Party

Yesterday I took pictures for sweet Caroline's Alice in Wonderland themed 4th birthday party. I think the pictures speak volumes, but I must take a moment to brag on Brooke anyway. The details were Ah-Mazing (which I tried to capture in these pictures) and the girls had a blast! It was a girl's luncheon at the country club and it was seriously one of the cutest party's I've ever seen! I hear....the sounds of laughter and love that fill my home.

I search...for balance in life. I'm a VERY busy working mother and I don't want to look back someday and regret not having enough time for my family and son in particular.

I wonder...what Jack will be like when he grows up. What will he look like, what will he be and what will he like to do?

I regret...that I have but one life to give for my country....sorry it's the first thing I thought of. It's the history teacher in me. (It was actually Nathan Hale, American Revolutionary that said that! :)

I love...my son more than I thought I could ever love anything.

I ache...for anyone or anything that suffers.

I always....cry at movies. I mean EVERY movie. It can be Bambi or The Hangover....and I'm not kidding.

I usually....find myself critiquing people's grammar. Please don't be afraid to talk to me now that you know this...I'm not judging, it's just something I do. Thanks, mom!

I am not...very good at math. I'm a Liberal Arts major so I have an excuse, but let's just say my only C in college was College Algebra....again not kidding (although I wish I was! )

I dance...like no ones watching (in the kitchen, the bedroom, in front of the t.v., in the car, but my favorite is when I dance with Jack).

I sing...in the car all the time. I drive a lot for my job so that leaves me with many hours to myself. I try not to pay attention to the weird looks I'm sure I get.

I never...want to build another house as long as I live. But I'm married to Bronson Parrish....I've accepted my fate!

I sometimes...wish to speed up time, but I try to remember it's all about the journey, so enjoy the ride.

I cry...watching t.v. and reading books too. I'm a crier. I cry when I'm happy, when I'm sad, when I'm scared, and even when I'm mad. I'm just so glad my husband has learned to accept it.

I am not always...patient. Again, one of my character flaws...but I'm learning.

I lose...my car keys sometimes and it makes me want to invent an alarm device to attach to them. I think that might be the next million dollar idea....

I am grateful...for anyone who has gone against what is popular to stand up for what is right....American Revolutionaries, supporters of women's rights, civil rights activists, and the list goes on and on.....

I need...a housekeeper! Unfortunately I currently fill that position too and my house is a wreck!

I should...learn to forgive more easily. I remember EVERYTHING, which is often times a bad thing. I really work hard at learning to forgive and forget.

Jack Skiing

Here are several videos of Jack skiing if you didn't already catch the one I posted on facebook last week. We weren't hoping for Jack to pull a Bode Miller on the slopes, but rather just get use to having skis on his feet. Next year he'll be old enough for ski school.....and we'll let the professionals take it from there!

This was Jack's first and last trip down the real hill. We actually took him on the lift and down a green slope....but he just wanted to ride the lift again.....oh, and for me to hold him!

This is the rope tow that Bronson and Jack frequented. I think Jack liked going up. It was the coming down he wasn't a fan of!

Tuesday Ten......on Thursday!

I have been sooooo behind in my blogging lately that I thought I'd play catch-up and do a TT on Thursday! I'm goin' rouge (with a little nod to Sarah Palin! :)

Here is a list of essential manners any "gentleman" should possess. I say "gentleman" because it's truly a dying breed. You always hear that men in the South have such good manners and know how to treat a lady, which may be true, but there is NO reason why I can't raise a little gentleman living in the North! My mom being raised in the South ALWAYS stressed manners and etiquette to me, so lucky for Jack, he's going to get it too! So here goes my list of manners necessary for all boys/men. There is no greater compliment a mother can receive than...."What a little gentleman you have!".

1. ALWAYS hold the door for a lady. That also includes the elderly, women with small children, or anyone else in need. It's just the right thing to do for anyone for that matter.

2. When walking next to a woman on the sidewalk, always take the side closest to the road to protect the woman from debris or even danger.

3. Always pay on the first date. I know these days (wow, that really makes me sound like an old-timer) it's common for women to ask men out as well, but nevertheless, men ALWAYS should pay on the first date!

4. A gentleman (and lady for that matter) should always use "sir" and "ma'am" and "please" and "thank-you".

5. Stand when a women enters the room or approaches you while you're seated.

6. And then pull out a chair for her to sit!

7. Help a woman with her jacket or sweater. (This mostly pertains to putting it on.)

8. Always make sure a woman makes it home (or to her car) safely. Don't speed away before you know she's okay.

9. When getting in a car, always open the door for a woman.

10. If a woman is carrying something, offer to help her or even carry it for her....no matter how small. Sometimes it's just the thought that matters.

I know some of these are soooooo 1940s, but I can sure try to teach my son the chivalry only our grandparents knew!

The Wedding Singer

As I stated in an earlier post, Bronson provided the music for the wedding ceremony and I jokingly called him, "The Wedding Singer". He was a hit! He sang several Jack Johnson songs, a Jason Mraz song and a few other personal favs of his. To remember his contribution to the uniqueness of the ceremony and Bhrett and Josh's special day, I wanted to get a different picture of him and his guitar that we could hang up in our house. We came across a vacant path used by the snow groomers at the base of peak 7 in Breckenridge and I knew it was the perfect spot! We quickly jumped out, grabbed the guitar and stool and I shot a few pictures. This was the end result....

Back from Colorado

Here are a few quick pictures to tide you over until I can get back to regular schedule. We just got back from CO today and I'm EXHAUSTED!! I think I need a vacation from my vacation. But it's back to the grindstone tomorrow and I have a lot of work issues to deal with in the upcoming month.

I have lots more pics and videos to post (Jack had a skiing lesson from Brons) and I can't wait to see the official wedding pics. Melissa from Fresh in Love Photography of Denver was a doll and also VERY talented. I can't wait to see and post some of her work from Bhrett and Josh's wedding. She also inspired me to try a new technique (shooting into the sun). Hope you enjoy the few examples below! :)

My 30th Birthday Surprise

My WONDERFUL friends (with Melissa as the ring-leader) decided to throw a little surprise spa party for me to celebrated the dreaded Big 3-0! And as it turns out, it wasn't so dreaded. Melissa concocted a story in order to get me to the spa that Saturday. She told me it was a grand opening of a spa in Mt. Vernon and that they were offering free Botox. Of course, I was all about it! (And later she admitted to me that she didn't know how else to get me there other than to say free Botox was involved and also warned all the other girls.....I may be a little disappointed when I found out that that really wasn't in the plans). I'm not really sure what that says about me, but I think you know I couldn't have been anymore surprise and happy with our little celebration. Not to mention my BF from high school drove all the way from Louisville, Kentucky to be there!

So we had a nice relaxing morning that involved Mimosas, fruit, pastries, pedicures, a facial and a massage! And I can't think of many other times I've been so touched. When I saw them all in the room waiting for me I immediately started balling....I'm so glad no one got that on video!

And the last few pictures are from Saturday evening. Leslie, her boyfriend Tommy, Farley and I decided to go out and celebrate like the old days....

Another busy busy weekend for me, but it was a good one! Here are a few of my recent favs.....

Tuesday Ten

1. The Twilight Turtle. I LOVE this night light I bought for Jack's room! It's a turtle but has three different colors to choose from (blue, green and orange) and shines the stars on the ceiling. I love it and he loves it! Plus it makes a great birthday/shower gift as well. Money well spent! (And they have lady bugs for the girls!)

2. Mini Boden Euro-Style Swim Trunks.. I saw these swim trunks in Mini Boden's new catalog and bought them immediately! How cute are they? And I have big plans for a "Jack on the Beach" photoshoot when we go to Virginia in July! I can't wait!

3. Kid's Aviator Sunglasses. I have looked everywhere for these glasses. I know The Gap has them but we don't have one anymore and I hate to pay shipping on a $12 item that winds up being a $20 item. So I found a pair at Walgreen's! They do have a little Spiderman on them, but I think I can Photoshop it. But I absolutely fell in love with this picture from Fresh in Love Photography in Denver. And lucky me, I actually get to meet the girl behind the lens when she shoots Bhrett's wedding in two weeks.

4. Cable-knit Sweater Leggings. I hate it when I get something very specific in mind and then never find exactly what I'm looking for. It happens. Quite often. Urrrrr... Well here's another example of something that's IMPOSSIBLE to find: Brown cable-knit sweater leggings....that fit a grown woman! I say grown woman, because they make them for toddlers and make them for juniors, and they do make them for women, although the sites I actually located them only had XS in stock! Come on...really!? So I opted for some Hue Brown Ribbed Sweater Leggings. Close....but not the same. (This is to go with my turquoise sweater dress that I'm wearing to the wedding).

5. Katie Parrish Photography Easter Special. This year I'm going all out for my one-day Easter special. I'm planning on having a bunny, fresh flowers, eggs, and this FABULOUS chair that I found at a local antique store. I had planned on adding a chair to my repertoire, but after booking for my special, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity!

Now please use your imagination....I'm having it recovered in a taupe color material. This is a shot I snapped with my phone, but you get the idea! And I'm anxious for things to get greener outside so I can decide on the perfect location. But I have 2 slots left if you're interested. Details are at Katie Parrish Photography Website.

6. Hanging Metal Name Plates. I reorganized our linen closet probably a year ago, but refrained from labeling my baskets because I couldn't find a classy way to do it. Well, last week I got the new Ballard Designs catalog and my problem was answered. Too cute, huh?

7. The Lost Art of a Handwritten Note. In the age of facebook, blogging, twitter, and email, I think the practice of handwriting notes has become somewhat endangered. This saddens me because the power of the handwritten note should not be overlooked. I always try to send handwritten thank yous (unless they are for Jack and I often send photo cards), birthdays, just because, and even in following up after an important job interview! But I can assure you the practice will continue in the Parrish household and Jack too will get this very important lesson in card writing etiquette.

8. I'm Now an Employee of Pfizer! Yesterday it became official. King Pharmaceuticals no longer exists and I now get my paycheck from Pfizer. It's hard for me to wrap my head around the enormity of this company. I've only known King in this industry and going from one of the smallest to the largest is "a hard pill to swallow".....pun intended! :) So needless to say, the chaos will continue with Pfizer drug training, compliance and other various admin stuff, but at least I have a job! No complaints here!!

9. And the Oscar Goes To..... Thanks to The Academy for getting it right!

10. Over the weekend we decided to repaint the upstairs. We were just bored to death with our neutral choice of Haystack. So we opted for a bolder palette to include Africa and Chocolate Truffle! I can't wait to show you the after pictures!!

Jack at the Old Train Depot

One of my favorite places to do photo shoots is the old train depot, off the square in Marion. But I'm usually so busy with clients I never have had the time to take Jack there. But I actually had a free weekend so Jack and I went for a little photo shoot of our own. Plus I knew if the trip involved trains and tracks he would be all about it! Tuesday Ten: Music Edition

Again, it's no secret that one of my true loves in this world is music. So I thought I would compile a little list of my all time favs. There are many different genres I like and many different people/groups I love, but these are the ones that you could pop in a cd of any album from any era and I could listen to from start to finish.

I always have fun putting together these lists because it allows me to reflect on things I would normally give a second thought to. Several things I learned will composing this list: A) I'm drawn men in music. Not to say I don't like women singer or women musicians, but not a single one made my list. Hummmmm, what does that say? B) Most of my favs are from another country. I think only 3 people on the list are actually from the U.S. C) And lastly, I'm a HUGE fan of the "triple-threat" performers. By this I mean singer/songwriter/musician. Every single person/group on the list fits the "triple-treat" description. Wow, how cool is that!?

So here we go (in no particular order).....

1. John Mayer. I LOVE John for his great guitar playing and smooth voice. His Continuum album (can we still call them albums?) is one of my all time favs!! But I tend to be a fan of lesser know tunes and his cover of Jimi Hendrix's Bold As Love is one of my favorites! I turn my blind eye to his weird personal life and crummy attitude, because wow, he can really wail on a guitar!!

2. The Beatles. There is no surprise here. I love The Beatles music all the way from the 60s to the 70s to the their solo careers of the 80s to present! But my fav songs include Here Comes The Sun, While My Guitar Gently Weeps,Good Day Sunshine, and Blackbird....just to name a few!!!

3. Eric Clapton. Again, another performer that has stood the test of time. I love "Lay Down Sally", "Bell Bottom Blues", and "I've Got a Rock n Roll Heart". And his "Unplugged" album is another all time love of mine. I love the bluesy side of Clapton.

Also, some fun R&R trivia: George Harrison was married to a girl named Patty Boyd whom he wrote "Something" for. Eric Clapton, George Harrison's BF was so smitten with her, he wrote "Layla" for her. Patty Boyd divorced George, later married Eric and then Eric wrote one of his biggest hits to date "Wonderful Tonight" about her as well! Wow that was one lucky gal, although she later divorced Eric too!

4. Elton John. I love many of Elton's songs, and of course all his old school tunes, but a more recent (if you can call 2001 recent) is "I Want Love". I attached the video because not only is it a great Elton song, but it's RDJr. lip syncing it! I double heart this video. I wonder where Elton came up with the idea!?

5. Stevie Ray Vaughn. In my opinion, one of the greatest guitar players of all time making his untimely death all the more tragic! He was actually traveling back to Chicago on a helicopter after performing a concert with Eric Clapton. I LOVE "Texas Flood", "The Sky is Cryin", and his version of "Little Wing"!!

6. Dave Matthews. I've been a fan since his music first hit the airwaves (circa 1994). That makes me sound REALLY old...or rather Dave sounds really old! Crash is one of my all time favorite albums!!

7. Bryan Adams. He was one of my first music loves. I LOVE LOVE LOVE "Please Forgive Me". I think that may be my most favorite romantic song!!

8. The Eagles. The thing I love about The Eagles is as much as I love their music as I group, I love all their solo music just as much!

9. U2. I could say so much about U2 and list soooo many songs, but I will just say "One" might be my fav song. Ever. Of all time. And "Achtung Baby" is another top album. I can't wait to finally see them again in concert this July!!!

10. I couldn't decide on a #10, so here's my honorable mention list:

Valentine's Day Hotties

I also planned this to be a "Tuesday Ten" post, but then I remembered V-Day is Monday so the whole Tuesday post wouldn't work too well for this!!! :)

So I thought I would do a fun little post on my definition of a hottie! Let me tell you I had fun doing all the research for this one!! And I do want to mention that I am happily married, although I'm not dead. I realize that there are certain things that attract me to a man like brains, humor, and of course being nice to look at doesn't hurt either. Some are cliche and some not so much....

1. Jake Gyllenhaal. He's got humor, great acting skills, looks, and brains (attended Columbia). I think he's a keeper!

2.Bradley Cooper. He definitely has humor (LOVED him in The Hangover) and apparently brains too (attended Georgetown and fluent in French). Oui, Oui!

3. Colin Firth. What is it about a man with a British accent that's is so darn cute? Well, he obviously has that going for him, as well as a hand full of Oscars too! If you haven't seen The King's Speech....YOU MUST!

4. David Beckham. Ok, he's just eye candy. I'm really not sure if he has a whole lot up there, but he has enough everywhere else to make up for it!! Although two requests is you're reading David. One, I don't dig the buzz cut, keep the hair long and two, please don't talk. You are so much hotter when you don't speak. (He is one of those men who doesn't have a voice to match the looks. He sounds like a little school boy. It's almost comical. Gosh I hate the truth!)

He wears a suit like no other....

5. Hugh Jackman. He has the Australian accent going for him (next best thing to British) and obviously the looks. If you haven't see Australia yet, see it now. You'll be in love too......

6. Robert Pattinson. Alright this is my girlie, cliche crush. I better not get any flack about this either! He's got the looks, obviously the acting skills, but also a FANTASTIC singing voice as well. He's got a song on the Twilight soundtrack that I heart! Take a listen sometime. I promise you won't believe it's him....

7. Robert Downey Jr. . I LOVE LOVE LOVE RDJr.! He has that bad boy edge (I'm so glad he was finally able to kick the drug habit though) and a great actor. I love him in serious movies, but I think I like his comedy roles best.

This was his role for Tropic Thunder (yes that's him, playing a black man). It makes me laugh just looking at this picture! Again, if you haven't seen it, you must check it out!!

8. Johnny Depp. Again, cliche....but total eye candy!!! But you can quit making those Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Johnny! The first several were good, but there is something called "too much of a good thing"!

9. Bronson Parrish. I told Bronson he made a Valentine's Day hotties list and I needed to do a quick GQ style photo shoot. And when I say quick, I mean literally 3 minutes because that's all I got. My husband is even less cooperative than my 2 year old when it comes to picture taking (and that's pretty darn uncooperative!). He HATES having his picture taken. But he is the total package! He's smart, funny, handsome, a great musician and a true handy man. He's kinda like MacGyver, although way cuter. He had me at,"Hey, look at this house I built!"

10. Jack Parrish. I'm a little biased when it comes to the Parrish boys, but Jack is quite the catch too! He's fun, loves to dance, gives kisses and hugs, and knows how to melt his mommy's heart! He's super smart and is also a future musician, I do believe.

I'm always looking for photo ideas! I don't really consciously look, but it's more of a sicko obsession that I constantly find myself framing shots and finding inspiration in the strangest places. Well, my latest inspiration came from the Justin Beiber Vanity Fair cover....
